14 years now Sven Väth and his high-spirited tribe have haunted the island of Ibiza. 2013, Cocoon turned Amnesia into a tropical jungle that seduced with lush colors and intriguing sounds. Of course the adventure was always sound tracked by the beats of the best DJs of the day, all lead up by techno ambassador Sven Väth himself.
It was a season of change for many clubs, but Sven managed to pull in the ever adoring crowds all season long and this compilation offers up the beats that mattered most this summer.
Starting with close Cocoon label associate Isolee and his ‘Allowance‘, a sultry mood is set early on but it soon turns to party thanks to the standout track of the summer from DJ Sprinkles on Perlon, as well as cheeky nods to the past via Cinematic boss Soy Mustafa’s re-work of ‘Bug in the Bassbin’. Cocoon regulars like Markus Fix and Daniel Stefanik turn up with infectious tech house numbers and Ricardo Villalobos still holds down the minimal fort with the micro-funk of his ‘Arild’ track.
The second disc sets off on a slightly different and mellower note. Henrik Schwarz´ keen house sounds explore inert, gloomy indie-rock sensibilities, fusing perfectly into Ten Walls´ ‘Gotham’. The contrast of its alluring melodies and the heavy bass put the crowds of this season consistently under their spell.
Elsewhere friends of the family like Roman Flugel and new school names like wAFF get all raucous and ravey with their stomping techno offerings, confirming that this second disc is the harder and heavier of the two.
Closing on Len Faki and Johannes Heil’s fizzing ‘The Octopuss’ you really feel you have travelled somewhere over the course of these two discs. Once again Sven Väth proved to be the pinnacle of techno in the island in 2013, and this mix is a fine memento for those who were there, or a great advert for those who weren’t.
