Appearing in the 2013 Ibiza line ups of greats like Marco Carola, Carl Cox and the Elrow party, shows that this young Canadian has made a name for himself. Carlo Lio’s pulsating, groovy techno is influenced by Loco Dice and Dubfire which can be heard in an already impressive list of releases by the prolific producer.
His latest release is just out on Saved Records and is called “What it is”. The peak time techno piece rolls out the bass carpet with an angry, rolling bass line which takes you in instantly. Spoken and scarcely intelligible vocals add to the mystery of the track and make you curious about what will come behind the next break. “What it is” oozes uber-coolness in its understatement and will take Lio’s sets to the next level come this year’s closing season.
The remix on the flipside by Phil Weeks shows the French house origins of the producer. Taking out the rolling bass and the vocals here is still surprisingly enough of the original in the track, which makes it a functional, euphoric peak time piece. Accentuating the hi-hats and distorting the melodic parts results in a more hypnotic, deeper tool for a real tech-house hungry crowd.
Already leader of the Toronto scene and a recognized force for many Ibiza headliners, this energetic release will further consolidate Carlo Lio’s standing in electronic music.
Come and see him live in Ibiza at Privilege’s Vista Club on August 24th and September 20th.
